Setting Timecode On The DXTX

Step-By-Step User Guide

Deity Timecode Family

Today, I’ll show you how to set up timecode on your Deity DXTX and all of its syncing modes.

The DXTX features the same timecode abilities as all our devices and follows our easy workflow.

Finding the timecode menu

On your DXTX, press the menu button and scroll down to TC Sync. Here, you can control all of your key timecode settings, including mode, frame rate, and channel.

Timecode modes

Mode dictates how and when your timecode is activated. Here, you can see there are four modes:

Free, which stands for free-run. In this mode, the unit’s timecode is always running.

Auto, which stands for auto jam. In this mode, the unit can receive timecode from another source via the XLR or wirelessly from a compatible Deity timecode device.

Once, which means to jam once. In this mode, the unit is ready to receive timecode from another source but will automatically lock itself off from receiving it again until the DXTX has been power cycled.

Lastly, we have Rec, which stands for rec-run. Timecode will only run when the unit is recording. Use of this mode is very uncommon.

Master unit settings

To get the DXTX in sync with your set, you will first need to pick your master unit. In this case, I’m using a Deity TC-1 set to 23.98fps on channel A.

Knowing what letter channel you’re on is essential so multiple teams in the same area can sync timecode independently.

Wireless Sync

On my DXTX, I mirror my master unit’s frame rate, confirm that the channel is correct, and set the mode to auto.

When I initiate sync from my TC-1, the DXTX automatically receives the handshake and gets up to speed.

XLR Adapter

If you’d like to use a third-party timecode generator as your master, you must jam it with the proper XLR adapter hard.

Hard Jamming Option

I set the DXTX to auto and confirm the frame rate. After connecting the external device, click Jam.

When the internal timecode matches the external, you can disconnect.

You’re in sync

Your DXTX is now ready to get recording!
