Adventure Skills Online – A Different Use for Deity THEOS

June 16, 2025

Creating online courses for sea and river kayakers, Adventure Skills Online have subscribers from all around the world that have access to the full library of online courses. As the online courses are filmed to a high standard, clear audio from the experienced coaches is crucial in their videos.

Simon Osborne from Adventure Skills Online explained:

“We need to capture audio while coaches are kayaking in rough wild environments on the sea, in surf and running white water rapids.”

A Typical Audio Setup

As crystal-clear audio can be tricky to capture at the best of times, let alone on a moving kayak, Adventure Skills Online have engineered a waterproof solution themselves using Deity THEOS transmitters and Deity W.Lav Pro lavalier microphones.

The Deity THEOS is placed in a waterproof bag, with the audio captured directly to their Sony A7siii, which is monitored through the camera. To make the W.Lav Pros completely waterproof, Adventure Skills Online have an ingenious solution. Simon explained they have “waterproofed the mics with latex glove fingers, glue tape and elastic bands to create amazing robust mics.”

Why Deity THEOS?

The THEOS has been the perfect wireless solution for Adventure Skills Online with all of the THEOS’ unique selling points helping them decide to choose it over the competition with their very specific checklist.

Internal Recording: The ability to record high-quality audio internally on the transmitter. Even if wireless signal is lost, they retain audio through the internal recording of the THEOS TX.

Extended Transmission Range: The requirement for a long transmission range was crucial so they could monitor the audio and reduce the workflow during editing.

Global Compatibility: Thanks to the global wide-band capability of the THEOS, they are able to take the THEOS anywhere in the world without facing frequency issues or having to purchase a different wireless system to work in a different territory.

Compact Size: The size of the THEOS enabled them to easily place the TX in a waterproof case on a kayaker without any issue.

Remote Control: They required a system that could be operated and adjusted remotely while a kayaker was out on the water and sealed away in the waterproof case.

Simon explains how Deity has helped Adventure Skills Online

“Deity has helped us up our game with the audio we can capture on the water. Having clear audio is one of our major unique selling points of what we offer to our subscribers. The difficulty for us was having good range in a dynamic environment and the THEOS system has given us that.”
