RELIABLE RF, SMARTER POWER: HOW DEITY THEOS KEPT JON’S AUDIO ROLLING ON SET

September 28, 2026

If you’ve ever had to sprint toward your talent mid-take just to keep a wireless signal from dropping, you know the exact mix of panic and frustration that sound mixer Jon from Cebu, Philippines, used to deal with.

Working on location meant constantly fighting limited frequency bands, dodging RF interference, and praying the gear wouldn’t give out during high-intensity scenes. But during a recent feature film shoot, Jon made the switch to the Deity THEOS Digital Wireless System, the W.Lav Pro, and the SPD-1 Smart Power Distributor.

We sat down with Jon to chat about how upgrading his audio rig streamlined his workflow, saved precious time on set, and survived a very sweaty basketball court shoot.

RF Dead Zones and Constant Adjustments

Before making the switch, RF signal interruptions were a constant headache. Jon’s previous wireless gear just wasn’t up to scratch for this new production.

“With our old gear, there were times I had to get closer to the talent just to get an uninterrupted signal. Finding clean frequencies was always a struggle because we were so limited by the device’s frequency range.”

Every adjustment meant physically pulling the talent aside, unclipping their gear, and tweaking settings – a process that slowed down the entire crew and broke the flow of the shoot.

Wide-Band RF, App Control, and Smart Power

Upgrading to the Deity ecosystem fundamentally changed how Jon’s sound department operated on set.

Wide-Band Tuning & Mobile Control

With the THEOS Ecosystem, scanning for clean spectrum became quick work. The digital interface made frequency management straightforward, while mobile integration through the Sidus Audio App eliminated physical contact with the talent for adjustments.

“It is so convenient to operate using the Deity app on our phone. I don’t have to remove the lavaliers from the talent just to change frequencies for on-the-spot adjustments.”

Sound Bag Efficiency: 2 TX to 1 RX

Space inside a mixer’s bag is real estate you can’t afford to waste. The dual-channel receiver design meant carrying half the receiver hardware without sacrificing track counts.

“I really love how Deity has a 2 transmitters to 1 receiver configuration. It freed up so much space in my sound bag, while the digital adjustments make the whole system very convenient.”

Powering the Entire Rig with the SPD-1

To power the setup, Jon integrated the SPD-1 Smart Power Distributor, simplifying cable management and power draw across his entire cart and bag setup.

“The SPD-1 is really great! I love how it can operate with just one V-Mount battery to power everything, including the mixer and three receivers. It really streamlined our gear and saved us considerably on battery purchases.”

Robust Equipment for Challenging Scenarios

Film sets are rarely gentle on equipment. During their latest feature shoot, the production called for a high-energy basketball scene where the actors were drenched in sweat.

“During our feature film shoot, there was a basketball scene which required our talent to be slick from sweat. I didn’t encounter any problems with the microphones; they delivered clean, crisp sound even in such a capacious environment.”

When the camera department spun up multiple wireless video transmitters (a common recipe for RF congestion) the wide-band spectrum capabilities kept audio dropouts to an absolute minimum.

Faster Shoots and Fewer Retakes

In indie filmmaking, time is literally money. Fewer technical glitches meant Jon rarely had to hold up production or call for a sound-related retake.

By ensuring reliable RF links, the system eliminated static and hits, drastically reducing the need for sound-related retakes. This smooth operational reliability allowed the audio team to stay fully focused on capturing pristine dialogue, fostering better collaboration across departments on set rather than wasting time troubleshooting gear. The benefits extended seamlessly into post-production as well, with clean files syncing effortlessly in DaVinci Resolve without any head-end audio issues.
